Funding Priorities For School Building Projects To Be Discussed

The Allegany County Commissioners will meet in a joint public session with the Board of Education in August to discuss funding priorities for school building projects. A recent feasibility study for the Allegany County Board of Education included recommendations for how Allegany County should proceed with plans to renovate or rebuild three city schools — Allegany High, Washington Middle School and Braddock Middle School. The board voted earlier this month to make the replacement of Allegany High its top funding priority.  Commission President Michael McKay is declining at this point to comment on his views about which school or schools should be funded. He added that issues such as where a new high school might be located or whether it would be re-named are strictly board of education decisions.
