Fundraising In Races For Maryland General Assembly Up

A government watchdog group says fundraising in races for the Maryland General Assembly is up compared to four years ago, even though the primary is three months earlier. Common Cause Maryland studied the campaign finance reports of 39 incumbent senator and 89 incumbent delegates.  Common Cause found that the total fundraising in Senate races was nearly $5.2-million, an increase of about $54,000 compared to four years ago. In the House races, the total raised was more than $80,000 higher compared to four years ago, with a total raised this year of $5.5–million, compared to $5.2-million in 2010. Jennifer Bevan-Dangel, executive director of Common Cause Maryland, attributes the increase to strong fundraising by candidates before this year's legislative session began on January 8, and to strong fundraising after the session ended April 7…
