State and federal dollars to repair and maintain local roads is continuing to decline- and while there was a minor bump in state highway user funds this year for Allegany County- it is still significantly less than the county used to receive just a few years ago. County Finance Director Jason Bennett says highway user revenue from the state is expected to be $461,000, about one-tenth of what the county received only a few years ago. Those dollars are used for basics like plowing and emergency repairs, but also needed for long-term maintenance. Five years ago the county share from the state $4.8 million. Bennett says that town and municipalities are starting to see some of their road funds restored, but he doesn’t foresee that happening with the counties anytime soon…
