Future Of Cumberland Airport In A State Of Uncertainty

The future of the Greater Cumberland Regional Airport seemingly has never been in such a state of uncertainty as it is as 2014 winds to a close. The Potomac Highland Airport Authority’s decision early this year to deny a former annual autocross on the airport grounds over the summer was the most controversial decision- but it wasn’t the only road bump. The year began with the Authority ousting its chairman after a contentious relationship, and replacing him with Allegany County Commissioner Creade Brodie Jr.  That was short lived however as Brodie resigned after several months of fallout from the autocross decision. Which state’s bi laws to follow is being decided by a federal judge; and Mineral County has made the decision not to allow its representatives to vote on business matters.  The future of the airport did become a campaign issue for those running for a seat on the Allegany County Board of Commissioners.  Commissioner elect Jake Shade has made it clear that he is frustrated with the path being taken by the authority- and promises drastic change…
