Gaithersburg Man Arrested For Attempted Robbery

On April 8, 2017 at approximately 5:10 AM the Cumberland Police responded to a business in the 200 block of Greene Street in reference to some type of disturbance involving an assault.

Upon arrival officers met with an adult male victim who advised he had been with a male subject and his girlfriend and they went to the business on Greene Street together. He had just met the male and his girlfriend and did not know their names. While inside the business the male subject, later identified as Amadeo Sai Kay Ennio De Bartolomei, reached in the victim’s back pocket and attempted to steal his wallet. A physical altercation ensued until a business employee intervened. De Batolomei then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Witnesses were interviewed, evidence was collected, and video surveillance was viewed, leading to a description of the suspect and possible whereabouts. De Batolomei was located at another business a short time later outside the City of Cumberland and was identified as the suspect. With the assistance of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, police arrested De Batolomei without incident and an Allegany County Sheriff’s Deputy transported De Batolomei to the Cumberland Police Department.

De Batolomei was charged with Attempted Robbery, Attempted Theft Less $1000, 2nd Degree Assault, and Disorderly Conduct. The male victim was not injured during the incident. De Batolomei was taken to a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing where he was held on $30,000 bond. He was taken to the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.
