Among the many amendments made to the governor’s expanded gambling bill approved by the Maryland General Assembly in special session this week- are two that should help Allegany County. State lawmakers included provisions in the bill that would require the new owners of Rocky Gap- the Evitts Group- to build out conference space before they could run table games and would allow veterans organizations here and statewide to offer five pull tab slot machines. The Rocky Gap portion of the bill, in theory, would cut down on the time that the resort would be without conference space. Another part of that referendum would allow veterans groups to have five instant pull tab gambling machines at their facilities except where those machines already exist in Calvert and Anne Arundel Counties. Tom Davis with the American Legion Department of Maryland told WBAL Radio while he has not read the approved legislation he believes this is a positive step- and allow veterans groups across the state to give more to non-profits organizations…
