Gambling Panel Discussing Table Games

June 2nd, 2012 by WCBC Radio

A panel on expanding gambling in Maryland held its first meeting Friday. The Work Group to Consider Gaming Expansion met in Annapolis and received presentations from current and prospective casino licensees. The panel is studying issues related to a potential expansion of gambling to include table games like blackjack. The panel, which includes state lawmakers, also will be weighing the potential of allowing a casino in Prince George's County. The work group is working on coming up with some ideas for a special session in July. If lawmakers pass gambling measures, they would go on the ballot for voters to consider. Senate President Mike Miller says he sees no reason why voters shouldn’t be given the opportunity to expand gambling opportunities in the state. The idea of a separate special legislative session to focus strictly on gambling had widespread support.
