Garrett County remembers the murders of Deputy Sheriff David Livengood and his K-9 "Sarge" on this date 36 years ago.
The man who committed the murders, Richard Danny Tichnell, was sentenced to death three times for the act, only to be finally sentenced to life in prison, where he died in 2006.
The other defendant in the case, Roberto Rezek, is now 63 and remains in prison, although he is scheduled to receive another trial in the case. According to the Maryland Judiciary Case Search, the case was forwarded to the Maryland Court of Special Appeals in July 2013. There have been no recent entries in the online record.
