Garrett man charged in hit and run incident

An Accident man who allegedly fled after striking two parked cars in Friendsville early Friday was arrested after his vehicle airbags deployed and his in-car communications system reported the accident to police. The Cumberland Times News reports Edward Herpel was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failing to remain at the scene of an accident, Maryland State Police said.

 

Herpel is accused of striking two parked vehicles on Maple Street. As troopers responded there, they were advised by OnStar of a vehicle accident on Accident Friendsville Road at Bear Creek Road.

That's where police said they found Herpel's GMC Sierra with severe front-end damage. Police said Herpel admitted hitting the parked vehicles. The incident occurred just before 2 a.m.
