A Garrett County woman was arrested after deputies responded to a Mountain Lake Park residence to investigate an incident that reportedly involved a handgun.

The Cumberland Times News reports Christine M. Proctor, 41, was charged with first- and second-degree assault, possession of a firearm and use of a handgun in a crime when the Garrett County Sheriff's Office responded to the 2:10 p.m., Wednesday incident that occurred in the 600 bock of N Street.

Officers responded to the location for a report of a "assault in progress involving a firearm," police said.

Upon arrival, deputies separated the parties.

An investigation determined Proctor produced "what was believed to be a handgun" and then pointed at a 61-year-old man in a threatening manner, police said.

A struggle ensued and the victim removed weapon, police said.

The weapon was seized by police as evidence.

Proctor was taken to the Garrett Regional Medical Center by Southern Rescue Squad and treated for injuries suffered in the incident.

Friday, Proctor remained at the Garrett County Jail on $25,000 bond set by a district court commissioner
