Across the country and around Maryland, gasoline prices continue their slow decline ahead of the Independence Day holiday weekend, a time when increased demand typically bumps up the cost of gas. Areas across the state continue to see declines up to four cents from the week before. Today’s national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline is $2.28, three cents cheaper than last week, eight cents less than last month, and four cents less than one year ago. While gasoline demand saw new heights for Memorial Day, it has dropped for the first half of June. Maryland’s average cost is four cents lower than the national average at $2.24 per gallon, which reflects a four cents decrease from a week ago and an 11 cents decline compared to last month’s price. The state average is six cents less than last year on this date. Cumberland’s price are down a cent from last week at $2.40 but still among the highest in the state
