General Assembly Debating Pension Cost Shift

February 11th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

The Maryland General Assembly is debating Governor O’Malley's proposal to shift hundreds of millions in pension costs from state to county governments. In Allegany County alone, the new county cost would grow immediately to $3.7 million the next year up from $2.89 million, and all the way to $4.35 million over the next three years. County governments fear the cost shift would place a huge burden on county taxpayers.
