Maryland has spent about a half-billion dollars on the fight against heroin and opioid addiction since Governor Larry Hogan took office more than 2 1/2 years ago. Hogan tells WBAL that since he declared a state of emergency on the opioid crisis last March, it has been all hands on deck approach to fighting the epidemic. Thousands of Marylanders have died as a result of heroin or other opioid overdoses, and it appears that this year that number is skyrocketing. Local police have said many of those who have died, overdosed on the synthetic version of heroin called fentanyl. Hogan says the state is treating this like other emergency situations that involve natural disasters or even the Baltimore riots…
