Governor Hogan skips RNC, chooses Maryland Clam Bake instead

Governor Larry Hogan and other top Republicans and Democrats spent Wednesday in Crisfield at the 40th annual J. Millard Tawes Crab and Clam Bake takes place today. The event at Somers Cove Marina is named for J. Millard Tawes, a Crisfield native and Maryland's governor from 1959-1967. It is a fundraiser for the local chamber of commerce. The event has become a mandatory event for most elected officials and candidates in Maryland. Gov. Larry Hogan wanted to attend the event last year, but he was undergoing cancer treatments and so he skipped the event. Comptroller Peter Franchot welcomed him back.Hogan, who has said that he has become disgusted with national politics and the emergence of Donald Trump as the party's presidential nominee, announced several months ago he would not be attending the National Convention this week in Cleveland.
