Governor talks CSX bridge issues

January 28th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

It was revealed at a meeting earlier this month, that  CSX Transportation has asked the city of Cumberland to take responsibility for three West Side railroad bridges.  The wont’ be happening as the city  officials say they have no adequate funding to  pay for improvements to the aging spans. Mayor Brian Grim and City Council members met in early January  with the District 1 delegation, which includes includes Sen. George Edwards and Dels. Wendell Beitzel, Jason Buckel and Mike McKay. The railroad bridges in question are on Cumberland, Fayette and Washington streets. The aging structures are in poor condition and will need major overhauls in the near future.  During the session  McKay suggested exploring adding the local bridges into a larger package addressing other bridges in Baltimore and other parts of the state. Maryland Governor Larry Hogan discussed the issue Friday during an appearance on WCBC’s “Dave Norman Show”…
