Governor Larry Hogan today visited several holy sites in Jerusalem, including the Mount of Olives and the Western Wall, as well as the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial and Museum. Governor Hogan is currently leading a delegation of state officials, business leaders, and Jewish community leaders on a week-long trade mission to Israel.
“I was deeply moved by my experience at the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial and Museum today,” said Governor Hogan. “To see the faces, and hear the voices of victims of the Holocaust – one of the darkest chapters in history – was an experience I will never forget.
“I was also extremely humbled by the opportunity to pray at Jerusalem’s sacred Western Wall, an enduring symbol of Israel’s rich spiritual heritage – a holy site where so many millions have come to seek hope and peace through God’s grace for centuries,” the governor continued.
Yad Vashem documents the history of the Jewish people during the Holocaust, preserving the memory of its victims. During his tour, the governor visited several well-known sites within Yad Vashem, including the Hall of Remembrance, the Children’s Memorial, the Valley of the Communities, the Avenue of the Righteous Among the Nations, and the Memorial to the Deportees. In addition to his tour, Governor Hogan participated in a wreath-laying ceremony to pay respects to more than six million victims of the Holocaust.
