Governor’s Mansion gets touch up

August 12th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Gov. Larry Hogan is having a new heated walkway installed at the governor's mansion. Spokesman Doug Mayer said Thursday the old walk needed to be replaced due to safety concerns. He says snow-melting cables were added to save money in the long term, because snow won't have to be shoveled anymore. He didn't have an exact cost estimate, but he says it's under $100,000. Mayer also says brick has to be used, due to historic preservation concerns. The walkway leads from a gate up to the front door. Landscaping has been a point of contention between the Republican governor and leadership in the Democrat-led legislature. House Speaker Michael Busch noted last year that the grounds of Maryland's statehouse, a National Historic Landmark, looked shabby in comparison to the governor's mansion.
