Governor’s Sister Passes

The sister of Governor Larry Hogan has died.

On his Facebook page, Hogan said Mary Theresa (Terry) Lazarus died Saturday morning.

Hogan had left Annapolis earlier this week to be with his sister who was in hospice care in North Carolina.

On Facebook Hogan said Lazarus was, "the best big sister anyone could ever ask for. I was always so proud of her.

"She was a wonderful wife to her husband Bob, and an incredible mother of my niece Becky, my nephews Keith and Kevin and the greatest grandmother of her eight grandchildren. Our entire family is deeply saddened by our loss. The world was a better place because of her time with us. May she rest in peace."

Lazarus is also survived by her father former Congressman Lawrence Hogan, Sr., and her brother Patrick

According to the governor's office she lived in Sherrils Ford, North Carolina, a small town on Lake Norman, north of Charlotte.

Her death was the result of Creutzfeldt – Jakob disease (CJD), a rare, degenerative, brain disorder that affects about one person in every one million people per year worldwide

She was 66.

According to the governor's office, she  was raised in Prince George’s County, attended St Ambrose in Cheverly and Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg.

She volunteered at her church and at homeless shelters and was active in her community.
