Grim Comments on Maryland Avenue Redevelopment Momentum

July 22nd, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Cumberland Mayor Brian Grim believes momentum is gaining for the Maryland Avenue Redevelopment Project.  The urban renewal plan includes razing 67 homes and a church off Exit 43 in the city's Rolling Mill neighborhood to transform the area into a commercial zone.  Although 80 percent of the homeowners in the target area have sold, or are in negotiation to sell their homes, about a dozen property owners have indicated they do not wish to sell.  The Institute for Justice, a public interest law firm, and Preservation Maryland have entered the debate and are backing the homeowners who do not wish to sell. Mayor Grim points to the recent announced support of the project from the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce- as well as highly questionable petition as signs that the project will ultimately come to fruition…
