Gun Control Measures Take Center Stage In Annapolis Today

The always controversial subject of gun control measures takes center stage in Annapolis today when the House Judiciary Committee considers a series of bills dealing with guns. Upper Eastern Shore Delegate Michael Smigel is sponsoring a bill to repeal the gun control law that was approved last year, as well as bills to repeal individual sections of the law. Smigel has also sponsored a bill to eliminate diminution credits for anyone convicted of a gun related crime.  It would mean that people convicted of a gun related crime could not get their sentences reduced for good behavior while in prison. Governor Martin O’Malley was the leading advocate for the state’s strict gun control laws. He called efforts to reverse the process nothing more than show at this point as every indication is that there is strong bi-partisan support for the state’s gun control laws…
