Gun Control Opponents Plan Referendum; Court Battle

April 12th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Gun rights advocates are already looking to shoot down firearms legislation that would make Maryland one of the most restrictive states in the nation. Delegate Neil Parrott, R-Washington County, heads MDPetitions.com, a website that collects signatures to put controversial legislation on the ballot to be decided by voters. He said his group was polling its members on their interest in putting the gun control bill, with a number of other measures, to referendum. In addition, the NRA plans to pursue legal avenues in an attempt to have the new laws thrown out.  Governor Martin O’Malley acknowledges that it’s a controversial issue with a large number of opponants- but he is confident implementing a gun control measure was the correct course of action. He says he has appreciated hearing from both supporters and opponants of the bill.
