Gun scare brings deputies to LaVale Walmart

October 2nd, 2018 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Times News reports that an Investigation into the sighting of a man placing a handgun in a backpack late Monday outside the Walmart store determined the weapon was a pellet gun he had just purchased from the store, according to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies determined in their on-scene investigation that the matter did not involve any criminal intent and there was no probable cause of a crime in the 9:30 p.m. incident. Police said the owner opened the look-alike gun and placed it in his backpack in his vehicle before he returned to the store to make additional purchases that he had forgotten. Deputies contacted the man inside the store who then complied with a request by store management to leave the property for the evening.
