Gun Shots Fired On Baltimore Avenue

On Sunday, November 15, 2015 at 7:18 P.M., Officers with the Cumberland City Police Department responded to a residence located in the 500 block of Baltimore Avenue in reference to a report of shots fired.  Upon arrival, officers conducted an initial investigation which revealed that several shots had been fired from a residence in the direction of two individuals that were outside the residence.  Members of the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department and Maryland State Police also responded to the scene.

Investigators with the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) responded to assist in the investigation. Officers and Investigators interviewed a number of witnesses at the scene.  The two individuals that were shot at were also interviewed.  Investigation revealed that the two victims went to the Baltimore Avenue residence to speak to an occupant of the residence.  As the victims were near the residence, an individual fired a long gun from inside the residence, through a glass door in the direction of the victims.  The victims began to flee away from the residence, as the individual fired another shot through the glass door towards the victims.  The victims were able to get away from the residence and called the Allegany County 911 Joint Communications Division requesting police assistance.  As a result of the gun shots; no one was injured or struck by any of the projectiles from the gun.      

The Cumberland City Police Department CERT Team was activated during the investigation, to ensure the safety of the public and officers at the scene.  A search warrant was obtained for the residence where the shots were fired from. The search of the residence resulted in the recovery of evidence related to the shooting, including the gun that was used during the shooting.

As a result of statements from the victims, witnesses, and evidence collected at the scene, 25 year old Gerald Allen Moore of Cumberland, Maryland was identified as the suspect.  Moore was located at the scene, transported to the Cumberland City Police Department, where he was arrested for shooting in the direction of the two victims.   

   Moore has been criminally charged with two (2) counts of 1st Degree Assault, two (2) counts of 2nd Degree Assault and two (2) counts of Reckless Endangerment.  Upon complete of processing, Moore will be taken before a District Court Commissioner for a bond hearing.

The scene was processed by members of the Maryland State Police Crime Lab.
