Harris: New Health Care Vote Coming By End Of Next Week

April 25th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

WBAL reports Representatives Andy Harris says he believes the House could vote on a reworked health care proposal as soon as this week saying that he thinks a compromise can be worked out. "It'll be either this week or early next week." He said the Freedom Caucus has reached a compromise with Republican moderates in the House. It was opposition from the two sides that killed President Donald Trump's first attempt to repeal and replace President Barack Obama's signature health care legislation. "We have the moderates working with the conservatives and they come up with a compromise that I think everybody across the spectrum should be pretty happy about it," Harris said.

Harris said the compromise measure allows states to ask for waivers from essential health benefits and community rating provisions as long as they establish that high-risk pool. Essential health benefits are things that, under the Affordable Care Act, all insurers must have coverage for, like preventative care, maternity and mental health.
