Harvey has gas prices jumping

The Mid-Atlantic region, like many areas across the country, is feeling the effects of what was Hurricane Harvey as gas prices continue their climb. Most regions began to see prices increase Monday and are expected to continue their climb into the Labor Day weekend. Today’s national average of $2.52 per gallon has risen by seven cents overnight and is up 17 cents over last week. Month-over-month the average has risen by 20 cents and is 30 cents more expensive than a year ago, The nationwide price at the pump sets a new high for 2017, topping $2.50 for the first time in two years.  Maryland’s average cost at the pump is pricing two cents per gallon more than the national average at $2.54 per gallon, reflecting a new high price for 2017. Overnight, Maryland’s average has risen by 11 cents per gallon, as many regions across the state experienced double digit increases with the exception of Cumberland. The state’s average reflects an increase of 25 cents from a week ago and a 21 cents rise versus last month and last year’s price. In Cumberland prices jumped five cents, up to $2.49
