UDPATED: Route 135 Reopened After Head On Crash

5 PM UPDATE:  Allegany County 911 reports that units have cleared the scene and the road is now reopened to traffic.

INITIAL REPORTS:

Multiple fire and rescue units from Garrett and Allegany counties are on the scene of a head-on vehicle crash atop fog-covered Backbone Mountain. The crash, reportedly involving a box truck and passenger vehicle, occurred about 2:45 p.m. on state Route 135 in Garrett County.

Justin Orendorf, assistant chief of communications for Garrett County Public Safety, said the roadway will be closed for an extended period as the accident is cleaned up.

One of the vehicles reportedly caught fire, but the occupants were out of the vehicles.

At least two people were being transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

The box truck was reportedly not hauling any cargo.
