Health Care Signups Jump 50 Percent As Deadline Elapses

December 28th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Maryland health officials reported this week that enrollment in private health insurance on the state exchange website increased by more than 50 percent, totaling 11,715 signups since October. The tally through Saturday represents an increase of nearly 4,300 enrollments since the end of the previous week. The deadline to enroll in health care plans for coverage beginning January 1st in Maryland was midnight Friday for CareFirst and United Healthcare. Website issues  have hindered the efforts for a smooth transition since October, with Governor Martin O'Malley setting deadlines for refurbishing the multi-million dollar online marketplace.
