February 4th, 2020 by WCBC Radio

State health officials said Tuesday a second Marylander has met U.S. Centers for Disease Control criteria to be tested for coronavirus. No details were made public about the person or their condition.

Last week, a family member of a Towson University faculty member tested negative for the virus, which originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan.

To date, more than 20,000 cases have been reported in mainland China, with 425 deaths. The first death outside mainland China was reported Tuesday in semiautonomous Hong Kong. Eleven cases have been recorded in the U.S.

Symptoms of coronavirus include fever, cough, shortness of breath and pneumonia. To avoid spreading viruses, wash your hands frequently, cover your mouth and nose while coughing or sneezing and avoid close contact with people who are sick.
