Hendershot Wants to Re-Explore Combining Law Enforcement

Having just voted a few months ago to re-establish full law enforcement responsibilities under the Allegany County Sheriff’s Department- and to abolish the Bureau of Police- its doubtful the county commissioners have a strong desire to re-examine combining or consolidating local law enforcement.  Cumberland City Councilman Harold “Butch” Hendershot, however, says it’s an idea  worth exploring.  With the commissioners leading recent talks designed toward sharing municipal services- Hendershot says now might be an appropriate time to re-open talks about combining the city and county police forces. He acknowledges that a number of studies on the controversial subject over the years have suggested otherwise, but he believes it would be a legitimate cost savings for taxpayers…
