Heroin Arrest in City

On Friday at 1009 pm an Officer with the Cumberland Police Dept was monitoring traffic on Route 220 in the area of the Park n Ride when he observed a vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit. The Officer performed a traffic stop on the vehicle and contacted the operator. The Officer noted that the operator appeared to be nervous and shaking. At this time a K-9 Officer from the Cumberland Police Dept was summonsed and responded to the scene performing a free air sniff on the vehicle indicating a positive alert for narcotics. As a result a quantity of suspected heroin was recovered from the operator and the vehicle leading to the arrest of 35 year old Michael Harmon of Cumberland. Harmon was transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance not marihuana, possession with intent to distribute heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of controlled drug paraphernalia. Harmon was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending his next court appearance.
