The Cumberland Times News reports a Cresaptown man was arrested on drunken driving and numerous other charges after a high-speed chase late Wednesday on U.S. Route 220 that began when he failed to stop for a trooper. Maryland State Police said that Forest L. Mongold, 31, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeding the speed limit by traveling at 110 mph in a posted 50 mph zone, reckless driving, unsafe lane change, fleeing and eluding a uniformed police officer, failure to control speed to avoid a collision and negligent driving. Mongold was released on his personal recognizance by a district court commissioner in a bond hearing following arrest processing. Police said a trooper from the Cumberland barrack attempted to stop a vehicle for alleged speeding on Route 220 near state Route 956. The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren, but the driver and the sole occupant of the Chevrolet Cruz — later identified as Mongold — failed to stop. Instead, the driver sped up and continued south on Route 220 with the trooper in pursuit. In the area of Fort Hill Ridge Road, the driver abruptly turned around and headed north on Route 220 at a high rate of speed. The driver turned onto Pinto Road, where he apparently lost control and the car struck a tree. Mongold refused medical treatment. During contact with Mongold at the scene, the trooper observed signs of impairment and he was placed under arrest
