Historical Society Asks County for Savage Jail

The Mount Savage Historical Society has asked the Allegany County Commissioners to donate the Old Mount Savage Jail to their organization in order to be able to continue to maintain the aging structure. The organization, represented by Dennis Lashley at the commissioners work session, has been maintaining the jail for years and calls its part of the town’s “Living History” educational tour for school children and adults as well as visitors. Lashley said it is not even clear who owns the building-as the only recorded paper work datings back to a 1907 request from the town to the County Commissioners asking for funding- and a request in the 1950’s for roof repair funds…
