Hogan Announces Executive Order

Governor Larry Hogan said Wednesday he will issue an executive order requiring Maryland public schools to begin after Labor Day starting next year, likely launching a political fight.  Hogan, a Republican, made the announcement during a boardwalk news conference with Democratic Comptroller Peter Franchot, who along with Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan has been campaigning to extend the summer recess past the September holiday.  The executive order will also require the school year to conclude by June 15. He emphasized the new calandar, which he says will be in place next year, will not lead to less instructional time, and will not impact athletic programs…
