Governor Larry Hogan today announced the appointments of Delegates Barbara Robinson and William "Will" Smith to fill two vacancies in the Maryland Senate. The governor made these appointments after receiving recommendations from the Democratic Central Committees in Baltimore City and Montgomery County, respectively.
“I am confident that Barbara Robinson and Will Smith will continue to be strong advocates for their constituents in the state senate,” said Governor Hogan. “I offer my sincere congratulations to the new senators and look forward to working with them in their new roles to change Maryland for the better.”
Delegate Barbara A. Robinson will represent District 40 in Baltimore City, filling the seat vacated by Mayor Catherine Pugh. Delegate Robinson has been a member of the Maryland House of Delegates since January 2007, where she served as a member of the Appropriations Committee and the Joint Committee on Fair Practices and State Personnel Oversight. She is also the former chair of the Legislative Black Caucus of Maryland.
Delegate William C. Smith, Jr. will represent District 20 in Montgomery County, filling the seat vacated by Congressman-elect Jamie Raskin. Delegate Smith has been a member of the Maryland House of Delegates since January 2015, where he served as a member of the Judiciary Committee and Advisory Council on Determination of Impact of Regulations on Small Business.
