The Office of the State’s Attorney for Allegany County, the Honorable Michael O. Twigg, State’s Attorney, announced on Wednesday, November 19, that Derrick James Swick, of Frostburg, was convicted of First Degree Burglary and two counts of the Illegal Possession of a Firearm After Having Been Convicted of a Crime of Violence.  The Honorable W. Timothy Finan, Allegany County Circuit Court Judge, sentenced Swick to 20 years incarceration for the burglary and 5 years consecutive for each weapons charge, for a total sentence of 30 years to be served in the Maryland Department of Corrections.

The case stemmed from a daytime burglary in the Vale Summit area in November 2013, where numerous weapons and other items were taken.  Mr. Swick then sold the weapons to other individuals.  A thorough investigation by Detective Roger Plummer of the C3I Unit, as well as assistance from the Maryland State Police, Frostburg City Police and other members of the C3I Unit resulted in the recovery of many of the weapons.

“Invading the sanctity of a person’s home is an extremely egregious crime and is taken very seriously by this office.  I commend ASA Bean and the untiring efforts of local law enforcement that saw this case to such a successful resolution.” said Twigg.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Erich Bean of the Allegany County State’s Attorney’s Office.  Mr. Swick was represented by Kelly Clark, Esq.
