Hostilities Continue To Grow Between BOE & Commissioners

Hostilities continue to grow between the Allegany County Board of Education and the County Commissioners. A routine meeting to go over final budget cuts on Friday afternoon turned into an often times heated exchange between school board members and Commissioner Bill Valentine. The primary focus was on the school board’s request this year for additional funding for enhanced school security. Valentine, who sits on the school board as a nonvoting ex officio member heard criticisms and concerns from Board President Ed Root and board member Mike Llewellyn. The balk of the concerns centered on the commissioners selecting a committee headed by the sheriff- and not including the board of education- to study the issue…
