House Committee Researching E-Cigarette Ban

March 7th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

Those who use electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes packed a House committee hearing room in Annapolis Wednesday, at a hearing on a bill to subject these devices to the indoor smoking ban, which currently applies to tobacco products. WBAL reports the bill is sponsored by Montgomery County Delegate Aruna Miller, who said the devices which allow smokers to inhale water vapor and other chemicals are unregulated by the FDA and pose the same second hand health risks that tobacco spoke provides. The hearing room was packed with people who use the devices, who say it’s a safer alternative to tobacco, and the devices have been used to quit cigarettes. Bruce Bereano, lobbyist for the Maryland Tobacco and Candy Wholesalers Association testified against the bill, calling it a “Chicken Little Bill."
