House Fire Injures One

One person was taken to the hospital from the scene of a house fire on the 200 block of Bond Street minutes after the Cumberland Fire Department responded to the scene on Friday. The Cumberland Times News reports

city firefighters were alerted to the blaze shortly after 3 p.m. after smoke was reported inside the residence where smoke detectors had activated, according to the Allegany County 911 center.

The city ambulance transported the injured person to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Mutual aid volunteer fire companies responded to the scene when the fire was upgraded to a second alarm.

The second alarm was sounded when reports were received by the emergency center that an occupant was trapped on the second floor of the residence.

Allegany County Fire Police was also called to the area for traffic control in the Bond Street and Henderson Avenue area.

The incident occurred at the same time as a property damage accident on eastbound Interstate 68 in the area of the Moose curve, according to the 911 center.

Cumberland Police responded to the scene in addition to responding to the Bond Street incident.
