March 11th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

Following a successful first year for Howard’s 25K Animal Shelter Benefit Run, the Queen City Striders will add a new 5K companion event to the Aug. 21 race. “With the help of Potomac Farms Dairy as a major sponsor, we’re excited to add a new distance of interest for runners in our community by adding a 5K supporting event to our 25K race along the scenic Great Allegany Passage rail trail,” said organizer Ray Hunt, a member of the organization who helped found the charity event and serves as the race co-director.

Hunt said the August 25K event offers cash prizes to top male and female runners and course record breakers, as well as honors for masters and age group winners.

Registration for the RRCA sanctioned event opened on Feb. 1 and is available online through www.howards25krun.com. Mail-in applications can be downloaded from the official race website, www.qcstriders.com. Registration will be open through Aug. 29 or until the race limit of 300 runners is reached.
