HRDC Impacted By Budget Cuts

One of the local agencies hit hardest by the ongoing gridlock over fiscal matters in Washington is the Allegany County Human Resources Development Commission. Courtney Thomas, HRDC executive director, told the county commissioners last week that the HRDC has been impacted as much as any with federal and state budget cuts- pointing to the sequestration and the debit ceiling and what effect it will have on local programs. Service requests are on the increase for HRDC, which serves one out of three county residents through its various programs. One example of the growing costs is in the area of meals provided to area senior centers which she says increased 18 percent in the past year…
