Immigrant Activists To Protest Gov. Hogan’s Decision

August 17th, 2015 by WCBC Radio

Immigrant activists are scheduled to protest Gov. Larry Hogan's decision to comply with a federal program to notify federal authorities about when and where people facing possible deportation will be released from jail. Maryland corrections officials say the state is notifying federal officials about release dates and times of any inmate who has been identified by Immigration and Customs Enforcement as an immigration enforcement priority. The state, which oversees the Baltimore jail, says it will voluntarily hold such inmates for up to 48 hours beyond their scheduled release, if officials provide a detainer supported by a warrant. The demonstration was organized by CASA of Maryland. Organizer Gustavo Andrade said the Hogan Administration's thinking on this issue is “out of touch”
