Incident At Columbia Street Apartment Building Results In Arrest

January 15th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

On Saturday at approximately 7:55 PM a phone call came in to the Cumberland Police Department from a subject, later identified as Jeremy Alan Shields, who began yelling at the officer on the phone and stating he was unhappy with how things were being handled at the apartment building he lives in.

He stated he was going to take matters into his own hands and assault the first person that answered the door that he knocked on. Police responded to the apartment building on Columbia Street he referenced and officers heard a disturbance inside the building. Officers entered the building and observed Shields involved in an argument with a male subject. The officer told Shields several times to back away and stop creating a disturbance. Shields failed to obey the officer’s orders and again approached the male subject he had been in a disturbance with and bumped his chest into the male subject. At that time Shields was placed under arrest.

Further investigation revealed Shields had been to the same male subject’s apartment approximately an hour before this incident and kicked the door in, causing damage to the door frame. Shields was taken to the police department where he was processed. He was taken to the District Court Commissioner’s Office for a bond hearing where he was held on a temporary commitment. He is currently being held at the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.
