Increase In “Flush Tax” Point Of Contention In Annapolis

One of the larger points of contention in Annapolis with Governor Martin O’Malley’s proposed operating budget is his inclusion of an increase in the state’s $30-a-year “flush tax.” A commission has recommended that state officials double the flush tax this year to $60 and increase it to $90 next year. The governor is calling for a rate based on usage as opposed to the flat rate used now. The Flush Tax concept has never been popular in rural Maryland- and State Senator George Edwards who represents Allegany and Garrett counties tells WCBC News that, although he isn’t ready to announce the details just yet, he will have several amendments drafted to address his concerns.     What is next a tax on how much oxygen we take out of the air when we breathe. Or tax on how much carbon dioxide we put in the air when we exhale !!!!
