The Allegany County Grand Jury recently returned indictments against 41 year old Chanin Allison Clark, of Slanesville, West Virginia, and 28 year old Brandi Lynn Gaver, of Romney, West Virginia, for their part in an attempted robbery which occurred recently at the Sears store in the Country Club Mall.    

On Monday, 02/27/2012, the Maryland State Police responded to Sears for a reported assault. They interviewed the 77 year old male victim and learned that while he was in the bathroom, a lone male suspect attacked him without provocation and for no known reason. The suspect repeatedly struck the victim in the face and knocked him to the ground. The victim, who thought the suspect was going to rob him, fought back, and the suspect fled. The victim suffered a bloody lip, an injured hand, and an injured shoulder. The victim was taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his injuries and released.

The store’s video surveillance was reviewed, and video of the suspect, who was in the company of a female, was obtained. Still photos of the suspect and the female were provided to the media for publication.

Numerous tips were received by law enforcement after the photos appeared in the media. C3I Investigators traveled to Romney and interviewed numerous witnesses. With the assistance of the Romney Police Department, the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office, and the West Virginia State Police, Clark and Gaver were identified and developed as suspects. An arrest warrant was obtained for Clark at that time.

In addition to the arrest warrant, Investigators were able to obtain search warrants for two different private residences in the Romney area. Investigators were able to recover the clothing being worn by the suspects at the time of the incident, as well as additional evidence connecting them to the crime.

Clark was arrested at that time by the West Virginia State Police and was returned to Maryland after waiving extradition.

Clark has been charged with Attempted Robbery, Conspiracy to Commit Robbery, and Assault. After an initial appearance before a Circuit Court Judge, he remains incarcerated in the Allegany County Detention Center on $500,000.00 bond.

Gaver has been charged with Attempted Robbery and Conspiracy to Commit Robbery. After her initial appearance before a Circuit Court Judge, she remains incarcerated in the Allegany County Detention Center on $10,000.00 bond.
