Inmate Adds 30 Years After Murdering Inmate

Allegany County State’s Attorney Michael Twigg announced on Thursday, that Anthony Monroe, an inmate at the North Branch Correctional Institution located in Allegany County, was convicted of Second-Degree Murder in the death of Michael Armstead, and sentenced to 30 years in the Maryland Department of Corrections by the Judge Gary  Leasure.  The investigation revealed that on November 27, 2012, Monroe attacked Armstead, also an inmate at the correctional institution, in an outside area of the prison facility.  Armstead was hospitalized following the assault, never regaining consciousness, and died as a result of his injuries on January 9, 2013 at Bon Secours Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.
