Maryland's annual tax-free shopping week starts today as back to school shopping continues. Continuing through Saturday qualifying clothing or footwear valued at $100 or less are exempt from the state's 6% sales tax. Since 2010, Maryland has held two tax-free shopping weeks per year. One in February is designed to promote the sale of energy efficient appliances. The second in August is designed to promote back to school shopping.
