Jacobs Will Not Seek Re-Election

June 19th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

WBAL reports that State Senator Nancy Jacobs says she will not be running again for the Maryland Senate in 2014. The Republican has announced that she will not seek re-election for family reasons. Jacobs started in politics when she was elected to the House of Delegates in 1994. Four years later she was elected to the State Senate. The 62-year-old spear headed the effort to increase the minimum sentences given to those convicted of sex crimes.  Several years ago Jacobs' legislation called Jessica's Law passed the General Assembly.  It requires a 25 year mandatory minimum sentence for those convicted of the most heinous sex crimes against children. She told WBAL radio that  much thought, consideration and prayer went into her decision not to seek reelection. She emphasized that while she is clearly frustrated with the partisan politics that now dominates Annapolis- her decision is for personal, not political reasons.
