Jerry Frantz Defends How Comissioners Have Funded BOE

Gong to bat for his former bosses,  Jerry Frantz spoke briefly during this week’s business meeting of the Allegany County Board of Education in defense of the manner in which the county commissioners has apportioned funds to local schools over the last two decades. The commissioners have come under fire from board members in recent months for what they believe is an ongoing trend of reducing education funding. Frantz, who retired in 2011 after serving nearly 30 years as the county’s director of finance, did not dispute that the percentage of funding going to education is declining-  but emphasized there are good reasons for that.  He added that while the percentage of the funding allocation may be decreasing, the actual dollars are not…
