Johns Hopkins University Wants Armed Police Force

Johns Hopkins University wants to create an armed police force similar to those patrolling numerous other U.S. urban colleges and universities. But it's not going to happen easily in its home city of Baltimore. A bill is currently in front of Maryland's legislature that would authorize a roughly 100-member force for Johns Hopkins' three city campuses. The measure is receiving both sustained pushback and high-level endorsements. U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings, was perhaps the highest profile individual to provide testimony, as he urged the Baltimore delegation to the House of Delegates to approve the measure.  Cummings said he was begging, not asking the delegation to move forward  as he made reference to the fatal shooting of his 20-year-old nephew, Christopher Cummings, in 2011 near the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia….
