Joy Retaining Concept Despite Microbrewery Setback

Although the deal with Barley and Hops Microbrewery of Frederick to operate a similar facility at the Footer Dye Works building has fallen through, Canal Place representatives fully expect a brew pub to be part of the final project. It was announced last week by project developer Michael Joy that Patrick's Pub intends to open an eatery on the first floor of the  Footer Building- with a target to open by the end of this year.  Although not many details about why talks ended with Barley and Hops owner Gary Brooks were provided by Joy- there has been speculation for much of the past year that he simply lacked the necessary capital to move forward and Brooks has been facing some fiscal challenges. Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority executive director Dee Dee Ritchie says that Joy felt it important to retain the brew pub concept even though the Barley and Hops deal fell through…
